Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl is the first film of the trilogy. It was highly successful when it was released and grosses approximately £330 million worldwide, becoming the fourth highest grossing film of 2003.

The film received five nominations for the Academy Awards, including Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, Best make-up, Best Visual Effects and Best Actor (Johnny Depp).
The story follows the character of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), a cheeky pirate, and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), an ambitious blacksmith, on their search for Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).Elizabeth, who is the governor’s daughter, is in possession of a special golden medallion. She is kidnapped by the feared crew of the “Black Pearl”. It later turns out that the crew of the ship is cursed and that they are doomed for eternity to neither live, nor die. This curse can only be broken through the return of the golden medallion and the spilling of blood. Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner have made it their mission to peruse “The Black Pearl”, even though it turns out that both characters are motivated by different goals. This exiting Pirate’s story is a definite must-see! Surprising twist, dangerous sword fights, love and the ever funny character “Captain Jack Sparrow”, contribute to this film’s tremendous success.
