Divided we fall (Musíme si pomáhat - 2000)
This is a Czech film by director Jan Hrebejk which has been nominated for an Oscar.
Seen as half my family are Czech, this was the film we watched for Christmas with English subtitles for those that do not speak Czech.

Here is the plot:
Marie and Josef live in Czechoslovakia that has just been occupied by the Nazi’s. They have unsuccessfully been trying to have a baby for a long time - a fact that is weighing down their relationship.
When the son of Josef’s old Jewish employer turns up on their doorstep, they cannot turn him away and decide to hide him at a great personal danger to themselves. With desperate cleverness and luck, the couple manage to keep the man hidden, until…
Well, I am not going to tell you everything. The best thing about this film is the sense of humour that the characters in the film manage to maintain even in such a tragic and desperate situation as the one described in the film. Very Good and highly recommended!
